Instructions for the Washing of Embroidered Garments
Embroidered articles are best washed with mild detergent without any chemical
admixtures (bleaching agents such as peroxide or chlorine and no optical brighteners) at
60º C (This temperature can be pushed somewhat higher with Madiera threads which I use
almost exclusively). Never leave damp or wet embroidered cloths pressed together. This
applies especially to embroideries washed for the first time. Do not spin dry or wring
them before rinsing thoroughly. On principle, a large washing tube should be used so that
the embroidered articles can freely circulate and are not pressed together.
No bleaching agents or decolorants (such as chlorine, peroxide or sodium carbonate)
should be used for removing stains. Stain removing with benzine and perchlorethylene
is possible if you wash and rinse the embroidered articles immediately afterwards.
Articles embroidered with rayon thread can also be drycleaned. Iron the embroidered
articles on the reverse side or between two cloths.
